Dr. Gohl was a pioneer in the field of Chiropractic and a lifelong advocate of the Gonstead technique. His desire to see the profession stay true to its roots as a non-medical approach to health and wellness was unyielding. To this end, he defended the chiropractic approach against the American Medical Association (AMA) in court using his full spine X-Rays to demonstrate tangible changes to the spine, which resulted in positive healthy outcomes. Always vocal about the body's ability to heal itself with a healthy nerve supply, he generously shared his expertise through countless seminars across the country and mentored a multitude of Chiropractic students. Dedicating his time to ensuring the baton was passed to future practitioners was his passion. Many students and doctors today state that it was because of the encouragement of Dr. Gohl that they are successful chiropractors.
His deep sense of calling and purpose resulted in Dr. Gohl treating patients for nearly 60 years. With a career spanning more than half a century, Dr. Gohl achieved mastery and recognition as a preeminent authority in Chiropractic care.
Dr. Gohl enrolled in the Palmer School of Chiropractic in 1947, following his two years of service in Okinawa with the Navy Seabees. After graduation, he worked as an intern in the Davenport Palmer Chiropractic Clinic. From there, he moved to Glendale, California, where he began his practice. The doors to his practice have been open since the early 50’s, and patients have continued to be cared for by Dr. Gohl using the Gonstead technique.
As a Gonstead advocate, Dr. Gohl taught Gonstead principles at Cleveland College East & West, LACC, Sherman College, and the Palmer Extravaganzas. Dr. Gohl was a charter member of the Gonstead Clinical Studies Society and received the Clarence Gonstead Lifetime Achievement Award from the GCSS in 1991.
Dr. Gohl developed a systematic and scientific approach to quantify the outstanding results of his patient care. During his later years in practice, he documented this information in four downloadable resources.
His passion for the field was contagious. Many Chiropractors have shared that without his mentoring and encouragement, they would not have persisted in the field.
In addition to his profession, Dr. Gohl loved his family, which included his wife, Beverly Tommene, his grown children, Sharon, Gary (deceased), Carol, Diane, and his grandchildren, Timothy and Anna.
His Christian faith was a guiding foundation for his love of people, service, and commitment to helping others.
